A weekend in the Priorat

⏱ Duration: 2 days, 1 night🗓 When it works: A Saturday and the Sunday that follows

The order follows the opening hours: Saturday morning is for Falset, because the castle opens in the morning, and Sunday morning is for the Charterhouse of Scala Dei, which closes at 15:00 on Sundays. In between the pace is easy, with one winery a day and two well-chosen tables.

Gratallops makes a good base for the night: it is one of the emblematic villages of the DOQ Priorat, has a hotel with a restaurant in its centre, and sits halfway between Falset and Porrera. So on Saturday you can have dinner where you sleep, and on Sunday head for Scala Dei without rushing.

It is worth booking before you set off: the winery visit, the table at Brichs, dinner at Cal Llop, and lunch at La Cooperativa in Porrera. The guided visit to the Falset cooperative winery, if you want it, is also by advance booking.

By season

Falset castle opens on Saturday mornings all year; in the afternoon it has a second slot from October to June, 16:00–18:00 or 17:00–19:00 depending on the season, and 17:00–20:00 from July to September. The Charterhouse of Scala Dei opens on Sundays from 10:00 to 15:00, and Tuesday to Saturday until 17:30 from October to April and until 19:00 from May to September.
